MANITOBA'S COMMUNITY IS VIBRANT AND WELCOMING
Manitoba is a bright, diverse province bursting with culture, opportunity, and a high quality of life. Some perks include affordable housing and a competitive corporate real estate market. Per square foot, the average asking rent in Winnipeg is $24, compared to almost $40 in Vancouver according to a recent Canadian Tech Talent Report.
Human connections are a big part of this provinces work culture, and the tech sector is thriving on valuable networking opportunities. Located in Downtown Winnipeg's West Exchange District, Innovation Alley houses a startup space for entrepreneurs, artists and innovators. It's also the launching point for deployment of LTE-Advanced wireless and Gigabit Fibe Internet. Bell MTS says these Internet speeds should be 20 times faster than anything currently in Manitoba.
Other innovating organizations include ICTAM, whose mandate is to support the tech sector, Manitoba Technology Accelerator and EMILI (Enterprise Machine Intelligence & Learning Initiative).
“Winnipeg's ability to harness tech opportunities is being noticed internationally. Cultivating a thriving tech sector is central to the city's economic development strategy, and Winnipeg is capitalizing on its unique combination of friendly small-town feel and big-city resources as it becomes a recognized hub for innovation,” Kyla Wills, SkiptheDishes.
New Canadians make up over 20% of the population, and the province welcomes over 6,000 Latin Americans with help from resources like the LACAM (Latin American Community Association of Manitoba), and the Immigrant Centre.
Manitobans are generally well educated. The province is home to a large number of post-secondary institutions and programs. The University of Manitoba has a prestigious Faculty of Engineering, and Brandon University, the University of Winnipeg, and Robertson College are just a few options.
Red River College is also committed to the entrepreneurial ICT community, and it just broke ground on a new building in the downtown Winnipeg's Exchange District Campus. The $95 million-dollar development will house the Business Technology Management and Information Technology programs.
Manitoba's also focused on your children's education. Winnipeg alone offers six school divisions for K-12, and continuing education programs for ICT like ComIT and the Winnipeg Chapter of Canada Learning Code.
Manitoba is fun too! Folklorama is a festival celebrating culture and includes a Brazilian pavilion. Winnipeg Folk Fest, Gimli Film Festival, and Pride Winnipeg Festival are other highlights in this festival loving province. Finally, Manitoba supports an array of sports including the hockey, baseball, and football teams the Winnipeg Jets, Winnipeg Goldeyes, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The province is also welcoming a new Canadian Premier League soccer team, Valour FC, and the sport has many competitive womens leagues.
