SR&ED is a federal tax incentive program designed to encourage Canadian businesses, of all sizes and in all sectors, to conduct research and development (R&D) in Canada. Each year over 20,000 Canadian businesses, 75% of which are small enterprises, file SR&ED claims worth over $3.5 billion.

Businesses developing new software programs or applications – or enhancing or integrating existing ones – may be eligible for substantial refunds and tax credits.

This session will focus on how companies in Manitoba can take advantage of, and be successful in, claiming Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax refunds to help recover software development costs.

Areas covered will be: What is SR&ED? Recent CRA changes and challenges businesses experience when claiming SR&ED How to successfully claim SR&ED for software development projects?

About the speaker:
For the previous eleven years Dr. Delmar Toth was a Senior Manager with Deloitte LLP, working with clients in various industries reviewing their technology, products and operations to identify activities and expenditures qualifying for Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) income tax incentives and other programs. Developing and preparing SR&ED claims, managing costs, scheduling activities and overseeing the technical quality of engagement deliverables and providing guidance and support during CRA technical and financial reviews of claim submissions. Prior to that Del spent nearly 20 years in engineering, design and development positions in Western Canada with: Schulte Industries Ltd, City of Edmonton – Mobile Equipment Services, Degelman Industries Ltd and Haul All Equipment Ltd.
