If you are looking to get your feet wet when it comes to programming, then this is the workshop for you. HTML and CSS are the backbone of all websites, and knowledge of them is a necessity if you are interested in things like web development, creating marketing emails, or even blogging! The web without HTML and CSS would be would be a world without colourful, pretty websites, not to mention the web applications we all use daily. It’s easy to learn, and was designed so that everyone - even non-programmers - can do it. No fancy programs are needed, just Notepad and a web browser!

Go Code Girl! - February 10th, 2018

What: A one-day event with four hands-on sessions that will expose students to computer programming and computational thinking. These sessions will be delivered by WISE Kid-Netic Energy, the Faculty of Engineering’s Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering, the Faculty of Science’s Department of Computer Science, and Microsoft’s DigiGirlz. When students register, they will have an opportunity to take part in online lessons prior to the event. The more lessons a student completes, the more times their name will be entered to win one of 10 prizes. Prizes include 2 Cue Robots, 2 Cozmo robots, 2 Ozobots, and 4 littleBits Rule Your Room Kits. This event is great way for students to find out if computer science/engineering is an area they might like to pursue as a career one day. In addition, this event will inform the girls about other clubs, events, resources, etc. that exist if they would like to learn more.

Ladies Learning Code: Responsive Design for Beginners - Build Mobile Friendly Websites with HTML5 & CSS3 - February 24th, 2018

For this workshop, we are going to take a super crazy, complicated website and make it mobile friendly using HTML5 and CSS. Bring with you an understanding of HTML and CSS or none at all; it’s not a requirement.

 We will be teaching you how to design for multiple screen sizes, select content that makes sense for mobile and of course, unmask the mysterious yet widely discussed HTML5.

With seven keynotes, 15 workshops, 36 presentations and 18 tours, delegates will be treated to a rich learning environment.
